EIF Smart Energy Site Tours
Smart Grid Atlantic Tour
Date: Monday, October 30th 2023
Location: 58 Rue Festival, Shediac, New Brunswick (Tour will start at the Shediac Multipurpose Centre)
Overview: The Smart Grid Innovation Network Canada has partnered with one of our Members, NB Power, to provide EIF 2023 Delegates the opportunity to tour the Smart Grid Atlantic Project. Smart Grid Atlantic is funded by Natural Resources Canada, Innovation Science and Economic Development (ISED) with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) as lead research partner. Other partners include Siemens Canada and Nova Scotia Power.
The Shediac Smart Energy Community Project has three parts:
Residential Energy Study - NB Power has partnered with more than 400 Shediac homeowners to install and test energy technology that includes solar and battery energy storage systems, and smart thermostats.
Converting Two Commercial Buildings to Net-Zero - NB Power is adding solar panels, battery energy storage and energy efficiency upgrades to two important Shediac buildings – the Shediac Multipurpose Centre and the Government of Canada Pension Centre. These buildings will be connected to a solar farm within town limits. The goal is to reduce energy use and increase reliance on renewable energy. These buildings will be New Brunswick’s first net-zero commercial buildings.
Community Solar Farm - Built within Shediac town limits, NB Power’s first grid-connected, 1.63 megawatt (MW) solar farm is designed to provide clean electricity to the Shediac Multipurpose Centre and the Government of Canada Pension Centre with excess electricity flowing into the community via the distribution system.
